The Extended Producer Responsibility Alliance (EXPRA), founded in 2013, brings together 38 Producer Responsibility Organisations (PROs) from 35 countries — with a shared purpose of enabling circular and carbon-neutral packaging through optimum EPR. These organisations are owned by obliged industry and operate on a not-for-profit basis, working collectively to deliver efficient and sustainable packaging waste management systems.
EXPRA acts as the authoritative voice and common policy platform representing its members, advocating for effective, transparent and industry-led Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) systems.
For over 30 years, EXPRA members have co-organised the collection, sorting and recycling of used packaging, particularly household packaging, on behalf of the obliged industry. Their approach ensures that these activities are carried out in the most economically efficient and environmentally sound way.
Over time, EPR has become a proven policy instrument worldwide, supporting the achievement of national environmental objectives. Today, more than 200 countries use EPR as an effective economic tool to ensure the collection, sorting, recycling and recovery of packaging waste.
EXPRA members are committed to demonstrating that packaging recycling is a key pillar of sustainable development and essential to safeguarding our planet for future generations. Their work, both within and beyond Europe, is recognised for its effectiveness and transparency.
Incorporated under Belgian law as an international non-profit alliance, EXPRA is headquartered in Brussels.
