Founded in May 2003, ENVI-PAK was the first organization in Slovakia authorized under Article 8, Paragraph 2 of the Packaging Act to manage packaging waste compliance. In August 2004, it was officially registered in the Slovak Ministry of the Environment’s Register of Obliged Persons and Authorized Organizations under the sequence number OO_0000001. Since its inception, ENVI-PAK has been at the forefront of packaging waste collection, recovery, and recycling, establishing itself as a key player in Slovakia’s waste management sector.

ENVI-PAK is backed by a consortium of leading multinational corporations, including Coca-Cola, Unilever, Nestlé, Mondelez, PepsiCo, Tetra Pak, Henkel, and Procter & Gamble. These companies bring extensive international expertise and best practices, ensuring compliance with EU Directive 94/62/EC on Packaging and Packaging Waste. The organization has developed a coordinated, transparent, and efficient waste management system, working closely with municipalities, collection companies, recyclers, and industry stakeholders to improve waste collection, recovery, and recycling in line with Article 7, Paragraph 1 of the Packaging Act No. 119/2010 Coll. Today, ENVI-PAK holds approximately 50% of the Slovak market share, making it the country’s leading Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO).

ENVI-PAK operates as a transparent and efficient Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO), ensuring compliance with Slovak and EU waste management regulations. As the oldest authorized organization in Slovakia, ENVI-PAK has been instrumental in developing and optimizing the system for separate collection, recovery, and recycling of packaging and non-packaging products. GOVERNANCE 
ENVI-PAK is a non-profit organization registered under Slovak law, dedicated to environmental protection through the management and recycling of packaging waste. Established in 2003, it is owned by eight shareholders, including major international companies such as Coca-Cola, Nestlé, Unilever, P&G, Mattoni, Henkel, Tetra Pak, and Mondelez. The organization is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of seven members, selected from its shareholder companies. While details about additional committees are not publicly available, ENVI-PAK operates under a Code of Conduct, ensuring transparency and ethical management of its stewardship activities. Supporting Producers and Municipalities in Waste Management

Companies that place packaging and non-packaging products on the market are responsible for ensuring proper waste management and financing waste collection and recycling. Under Slovakia’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system, producers fulfill these obligations through Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs) like ENVI-PAK.

On behalf of producers, ENVI-PAK organizes and finances municipal waste collection systems, ensuring that packaging waste is properly collected, sorted, and recycled. The PRO covers the full cost of these services, including the purchase of waste bins, operational expenses, wages, energy, and sorting processes, removing the financial and administrative burden from municipalities. This system benefits local governments and citizens alike—the more efficiently a municipality sorts its waste, the lower its residual waste disposal costs, leading to significant budget savings.

ENVI-PAK works in close cooperation with municipalities, collection companies, and waste processing facilities to design effective and efficient waste management systems.
