Eco-Rom Ambalaje plays an important role in increasing the awareness of the population, companies and the public sector regarding the significant role of the separate collection of packaging waste. National campaigns or local ones, targeted communication to various people and communities are developed each year using a variety of channels including a dedicated section of the company’s website (www.ecoromambalaje.ro/informatiiutile).
In partnership with the Romanian Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests, as a standing member of the “OIREP Ambalaje” Association, Eco-Rom had a significant contribution to organizing and implementing the national information campaign ‘’Un’DoiTrei’’ (in translation ”OneTwoThree”).
The campaign was carried out at the national level and aimed at informing and educating the population in order to implement the separate collection of packaging waste at the source of generation. Between May and October 2022, the campaign’s messages reached more than 5 million citizens, generating 80 million reactions, of which more than 5 million were in response of the video materials that were created.
Divided into three stages, the campaign took place in online, outdoor and print media and generated over 200,000 hits on the campaign landing page – https://oirep.ro/undoitrei/ – addressing the problems, solutions and myths related to the separate collection of packaging waste.
“Un’DoiTrei” (1-2-3) is based on a simple idea: 1. Open. 2. Use/enjoy. 3. Throw where you need to. To collect separately is SIMPLE | COMMON SENSE | NORMAL | CIVILIZED.
The campaigns aimed at increasing the level of information, education and awareness of the population in urban and rural areas regarding the need for the correct management of waste in general, respectively packaging waste in particular, as well as increasing the level of separate collection of packaging waste from recyclable municipal waste.
The activities carried out consisted in the organization of contests, promotional materials (outdoor banners, roll-ups, street and indoor posters), and the purchase of containers for separate waste collection. The campaigns were addressed to the urban and rural public, local public and private institutions, education staff, students of primary, secondary and high-school classes, and the media.
Projects designed to benefit various important partners and actors in the field of waste management are organized in order to raise awareness and built partnerships for a coherent and efficient system at national level. An example was the program “City of Recycling”, which aimed to involve local authorities in raising the performance services for local waste collection and fulfilling the ambitious new recycling requirements imposed by the Circular Economy Package on waste legislation.
Programs targeting primary school students were created in order to stimulate the interest and creativity of the young generation participating in different kinds of educational experiences than usual. The “Green Lab for Recycling” and “ECOlympics”, reached more than 30,000 students only in 2012 by giving them each a solid information base and challenging them to get involved and to prove they acquired information about recycling. As result, in 2013 the “Green Lab for Recycling” received the Golden Award for Excellence by European CSR Awardsand Silver Award, in the International Business Awards competition – National Energy Global Award – the most prestigious national award given to companies that innovate and develop sustainable solutions.

One of the services provided by Eco-Rom to its client portfolio is support in developing and implementing a plan for preventing waste generation. Prevention entails a comprehensive approach aiming to reduce the impact of packaging throughout its life cycle, from selecting raw materials to an effective waste management process.
The current legislation requires that packaging is designed for a minimum use of material to ensuring packaging functions in such a way as to facilitate their reuse, recycling, recovery, or disposal after fulfilling their main purpose.
