Verpact and Jumbo Supermarkets have taken a significant step in scaling up the use of recycled plastic, with Jumbo’s 3-litre frying oil bottles now containing 30% recycled content. The first bottles are already on their way to stores, marking a collaboration that will result in the use of dozens of additional tonnes of recycled plastic and substantial CO₂ savings. This initiative highlights how aligning supply and demand across the value chain can deliver tangible impact.

The development comes at a time when the plastic recycling market is under considerable pressure, with low-cost virgin plastic competing with recycled materials and slowing their uptake. To address this challenge, Verpact launched the Delta Plan for Circular Plastic Packaging in 2025, bringing together brand owners and value chain partners to accelerate the transition to a circular plastics economy. Through this approach, Verpact connects market demand with technical capabilities, enabling solutions that maintain product quality—such as achieving 30% recycled content without altering packaging design.

The collaboration also reflects a broader ambition to close the gap between imported virgin plastic and locally sourced recycled materials, while supporting long-term investment conditions for recyclers. By facilitating partnerships and introducing tools such as the Circular Plastic Bank, the Delta Plan aims to overcome key barriers to scaling recycled plastic use and can be applied across other product lines. With stricter European requirements on recycled content approaching by 2030, initiatives like this demonstrate how coordinated action can turn sustainability ambitions into concrete results.
