EXPRA is a member of the Advisory Board of the LIFE4EPR project, an EU-funded initiative aimed at supporting greater alignment and harmonisation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes across Europe.
LIFE4EPR seeks to address the fragmentation of EPR systems within the EU by assessing existing national schemes and identifying best practices to improve governance, transparency, and regulatory compliance. A key objective of the project is to explore the development of an EU-wide harmonised register as a proof of concept, designed to enhance interoperability between national EPR registers rather than replace them. This approach aims to support producers operating across multiple Member States while respecting national enforcement structures.
The project also focuses on benchmarking EPR systems based on performance-related criteria, such as recycling targets and readiness for emerging policy tools like the digital product passport. Particular attention is given to sectors facing high risks of regulatory fragmentation, including textiles, where harmonised solutions will be crucial to ensure effective and consistent implementation across the EU.
Through its participation in the Advisory Board, EXPRA contributes its expertise and practical experience to support the strategic direction of LIFE4EPR and to ensure that the project’s outcomes reflect real market needs. The initiative is positioned as a preparatory step toward future EU legislative developments, including the European Commission’s forthcoming Circular Economy Act.
