So far this year, the environmental organization has brought recycling closer to all areas of our country by providing resources to various public administrations. The bins and recycling containers are strategically placed in public facilities we visit daily in our towns and cities, such as schools, sports centers, and hospitals.
Ecoembes, the environmental organization that has been promoting a circular economy through packaging recycling for more than 25 years, has distributed 7,733 yellow recycling bins and 5,968 blue bins to local public administrations across Spain this year. According to the latest Kantar study for Ecoembes, recycling is already a habit in 8 out of 10 Spanish households, and with this distribution of bins, it is ensured that recycling reaches more places.
The installation of these bins is part of Ecoembes’ ongoing efforts to support public administrations during times when they may need additional resources, such as local festivities or holiday seasons when there is an increase in visitors. For example, in recent months, selective waste collection has been present at beach bars and hotels along the Costa del Sol, at celebrations like the “Descent of the Virgin of Socorro” in Tenerife, and events such as the “Sal de Músicas” festival and the San Isidro Fair in Murcia.
The provision of these resources helps to continue promoting the circular economy and to reduce the environmental impact of waste generation. Thanks to the strategic placement of these bins in municipal facilities like swimming pools, sports centers, and high-traffic events like festivals or concerts, citizens are encouraged to adopt recycling habits, allowing them to separate plastic containers, cans, and cartons (in the yellow bin) and paper and cardboard containers (in the blue bin) wherever they go.
These new bins join the 397,721 yellow containers and 253,322 blue containers already on the streets, where citizens can dispose of packaging separated at home, as well as the 57,643 recycling points and 310 RECICLOS machines located in high-traffic leisure areas like airports, offices, and entertainment parks.
To raise awareness of recycling habits, Ecoembes has also launched over 265 awareness campaigns this year in collaboration with local and regional public administrations.
Ángel Hervella, Director of Local and Regional Management at Ecoembes, highlighted the value of collaboration with local administrations, stating that “it is essential to improve the recycling service provided to citizens. Together with these administrations, we share the responsibility of making recycling accessible, and with the distribution of bins, we make it closer and promote the full circularity of packaging.”
In addition to encouraging recycling, the distribution of these bins and awareness efforts contribute to keeping public spaces clean and orderly, combating the problem of littering. In this way, Ecoembes strengthens its commitment to circularity, working hand-in-hand with administrations and citizens to move towards a future without waste.
