
EXPRA collaborated with Informa to organise the EPR Toolkit Workshop and to support the Packaging Waste and Sustainability Forum, held from 2 to 5 May 2022, in Brussels, where the presence of many EXPRA members (CONAI, Fost Plus, EKOPAK d.o.o., Svenskt Producentansvar, Grønt Punkt Norge AS, Valipac, PAKOMAK DOO, ETO), as well as other PROs and key representatives from industry and trade associations, brought great added value.
During EXPRA collaborated with Informa to organise the EPR Toolkit Workshop and to support the Packaging Waste and Sustainability Forum, held from 2 to 5 May 2022, in Brussels, where the presence of many EXPRA members (CONAI, Fost Plus, EKOPAK d.o.o., Svenskt Producentansvar, Grønt Punkt Norge AS, Valipac, PAKOMAK DOO, ETO), as well as other PROs and key representatives from industry and trade associations, brought great added value. the first day of the Packaging Waste and Sustainability Forum, Ms Maja Desgrées du Loû, Policy Officer for Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive, ENV/B.3 Waste Management & Secondary Materials, EC, opened the session with her presentation regarding the revision of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive (PPWD) that aims to reduce negative environmental impacts and improve the functioning of the internal market.
This was followed by a fruitful panel discussion: “Policy unlocks-Review of packaging legislation”, where harmonisation and coherence between the European Union and national governments, as well as harmonisation of waste collection, sorting, and recycling were addressed by an excellent panel consisting of Mr Can Buharali, Senior Director of Global Public Affairs, Mr Johannes Weber, European Affairs Manager, Nestle Europe, Mrs Patricia Lopez, Senior Management of Environment at FoodDrink Europe, and Miss Sevrine Pereira Teixeira, EU Public Affairs and Communications Manager EUROPEN.
During the session concerning “Pathways to a Circular Plastic Packaging System,” Mr Johannes Daee, Grønt Punkt Norge’s Head of development, discussed design for source separation and Norway’s Plastic Pledge. Mrs Vanessa Chesnot, Head of Public Affairs and Product Policy at FEVE, and Feliks Bezati, Global Circular Packaging Director, opened the next session on the balance between packaging sustainability and functionality.
On the second day, Mr Gerhard Kotschick, Plastics and Packaging, German Environmental Agency, presented the application of the new recycling measuring point, providing an overview for Germany. He focused on the importance of improving source separation and high-quality sorting to improve the efficiency and performance of the recycling system.
Mrs Eva Schneider, Senior Manager at AIM -European Brands Association, introduced the Digital Watermarks Initiative Holy Grail 2.0- Pioneering Digital Watermarks for smart packaging recycling in the EU.
