
As announced in Annex III to the ‘Plastics Strategy’, an EU-wide pledging campaign for the uptake of recycled plastics is taking place. As part of this campaign, the European Commission calls on stakeholders to come forward with voluntary pledges to boost the uptake of recycled plastics.
The objective is to ensure that by 2025, ten million tonnes of recycled plastics find their way into new products on the EU market. Interested companies and industry associations can submit their pledges by filling in the template for the pledging campaign for the uptake of recycled plastics.
The Commission has observed that there is a lot of interest from all the industrial and non-industrial actors in the various plastics value chains to be part of this exercise. Commission has decided to grant additional time for submitting voluntary pledges. The new deadline is 30 September 2018.
As reported during the previous General Assembly, after having consulted with our Strategic Committee with obliged industry, we are working on a kind of pledge which should support all the individual pledges that obliged industry has made towards the European Commission. As soon as we have a final draft, it will be shared with all our members.
